Hello JHD readers,

I’d like to share a quick tip from my own experience buying window shades on Amazon. There are many great options available for surprisingly low prices — as long as you know what to look for.

The key difference: Pre-cut sizes vs. custom shades

The biggest reason some shades are so much cheaper than others is simple:

Pre-cut shades (standard sizes) are usually far more affordable than big-name brands.
Custom shades often cost 2–3x more, even if they look similar.

How to spot the cheaper option

When shopping on Amazon, always check whether the listing lets you choose from a list of sizes (like 22″, 24″, 27″, etc.).

That usually means the seller already has those sizes in stock, ready to ship immediately — and the price stays low.

Watch out for the word “Custom”

If the title says “Custom”, it usually means you’ll need to enter your exact measurements, and the seller will cut it to size after you order.

That’s convenient — but it’s also the reason the price jumps and ends up being close to what the major brands charge.

Examples

Below are a few great-looking shades that fit the style of a Jewish home beautifully, and they all come in ready-to-ship sizes. If your size isn’t listed, you’ll likely need to go custom — and that’s when the price jumps.
